I was born and raised in Weslaco, Texas, and earned my doctorate in audiology from Texas Tech University.
While I originally planned to become a speech-language pathologist, I soon realized that path wasn't quite right for me. At my advisor's suggestion, I took an Intro to Audiology course, and from the very first day, I was hooked! My interest in audiology only grew from there, and during graduate school, as I was preparing to join the United States Navy, I was introduced to the field of hearing conservation.
While serving in the Navy, I was stationed at Naval Station Norfolk — home to one of the Navy's two largest hearing conservation programs — where I was one of only two or three Navy audiologists nationwide responsible for protecting the hearing of thousands of active-duty sailors.
My day-to-day responsibilities in our clinic are always evolving. I manage the business and clinic, provide patient care, follow up with our hearing conservation clients, and review hearing screenings, among other tasks.
One of the things I love most about my work as a hearing conservation audiologist is the opportunity to tour manufacturing facilities and see firsthand how so many of our everyday products are made.
Outside of the office, my wife and I love exploring new coffee shops, though most of our free time is spent keeping up with our children. When I get a chance during the week, I enjoy attending a CrossFit gym and the friendly competition it offers.
