CAOHC Certification Course in San Antonio, TX
This CAOHC certification course in San Antonio, TX certifies you as an Occupational Hearing Conservationist — the credential required to perform audiometric testing under OSHA 29 CFR 1910.95. Over two days you cover noise and its effects on hearing, audiometer calibration, hands-on audiometric technique, record keeping, hearing protection fitting, and referral criteria. The class is taught by Dr. Joseph Pratt, a CAOHC Course Director who ran the US Navy's largest hearing conservation program.
Full Certification or CAOHC Recertification
If you have never held the credential, register for the full certification course at $785 — both days, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. If your CAOHC certification is approaching its five-year expiration, the recertification course is $585. Either way you leave certified to run audiometric testing for your employer. Seats are limited and we teach this class infrequently, so occupational health nurses, safety managers, and industrial technicians should register early.

CAOHC Course FAQs
Common questions about CAOHC certification in San Antonio — who needs the credential, how full certification differs from recertification, what the two days cover, and how registration and payment work.
Anyone who performs audiometric testing as part of a workplace hearing conservation program needs to be a certified Occupational Hearing Conservationist. Under OSHA 29 CFR 1910.95, audiograms must be administered by a technician certified by CAOHC, or by a licensed audiologist, otolaryngologist, or physician. In practice that means occupational health nurses, safety managers, industrial hygienists, EMTs, and plant technicians who run annual hearing tests for their employer.
If your facility has employees exposed at or above an 8-hour time-weighted average of 85 dBA, you need a compliant program — and someone certified to run the testing. Call (210) 695-4707 if you are unsure whether this course fits your role.
The full certification course ($785) is for first-time candidates. It runs both days, December 9 and 10, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and covers the complete CAOHC curriculum including hands-on audiometric technique and a written examination.
Recertification ($585) is for technicians whose CAOHC certification is at or near its five-year expiration. It refreshes the core curriculum, updates you on current standards and best practices, and renews your credential for another five years. If your certificate has already lapsed well beyond its expiration, CAOHC may require the full course instead — note your certificate number and expiration date on the registration form and we will confirm which class you need.
The CAOHC curriculum covers the physics of noise and how it damages hearing, anatomy and physiology of the ear, the requirements of the OSHA noise standard, audiometer function and daily biological calibration, otoscopic inspection, and the mechanics of administering a reliable audiogram. You also cover standard threshold shift calculation, record keeping, employee training and motivation, hearing protector selection and fit, and when to refer a worker for professional evaluation.
A significant portion of the class is hands-on practice with audiometers and real testing scenarios, followed by the certification examination. Both days run 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM at our Babcock Rd office in San Antonio.
Complete the registration form on this page with your name, employer, contact information, and which course you need. Submitting the form reserves your spot pending confirmation — it is not a payment. Our office manager reviews each registration, confirms a seat is available, and calls you to collect payment by phone.
Tuition is $785 for full certification and $585 for recertification. If you would rather handle everything by phone, call (210) 695-4707 or email ksalazar@precision-hearing.com. Employers registering several technicians can list additional attendees on the form and be invoiced together.
The December class is taught by Dr. Joseph Pratt, Au.D., who holds CAOHC's highest credential — Course Director and Professional Supervisor. Only Course Directors are authorized to teach the official curriculum and certify technicians. Dr. Pratt and his fellow owner, Dr. Nathan Ortiz, ran the US Navy's two largest hearing conservation programs at Naval Station San Diego and Naval Station Norfolk, monitoring the hearing of thousands of sailors.
CAOHC certification is valid for five years, after which you complete a recertification course to renew. Because our team teaches this class only occasionally around our clinical and mobile testing schedule, the December session is the best near-term opportunity in San Antonio.
Yes. Beyond certifying your technicians, we deliver every piece of an OSHA-compliant program end to end — noise exposure surveys and dosimetry, onsite mobile audiometric testing at your facility, audiogram review by a CAOHC Professional Supervisor, employee training, and custom hearing protection.
Many San Antonio employers send technicians to this course and keep us on for professional supervision and annual testing, so the documentation stays under one chain of custody at audit time. Call (210) 695-4707 to scope a program for your team.
